Questions We Hear Often
Will this hurt my credit?
Talking with a counselor never affects your credit. Enrolling in a debt management plan usually closes the enrolled credit cards, which can cause a small, temporary dip — but steady on-time payments typically help your score recover and grow over time. We’ll walk through exactly what to expect before you decide.
Do I have to be religious?
Not at all. White Cross Agency is faith-based, and our optional Faith & Finances program is open to anyone who wants it — but it is never required. People of every faith and none are welcome.
How long does a debt management plan take?
Most plans are completed in 3–5 years, depending on how much you owe and what you can afford each month. Many clients finish early by adding extra payments as their situation improves.
Is counseling really free?
Yes. As a donor-funded nonprofit, our counseling, credit report reviews, and workshops are free. Debt management plans have a small, capped monthly fee (no more than $35/month), which we waive for hardship.
Can you get back money I lost to a scam?
We’ll be honest: no one can guarantee that lost money will be recovered. What we can do is help you report the fraud, dispute charges with your bank, freeze your credit, and protect your identity so it doesn’t happen again.
Be very careful of anyone who charges an upfront fee to “recover” your funds — those offers are almost always a second scam.
Is my information confidential?
Yes. Your information is encrypted, kept strictly confidential, and never sold or shared without your written permission.
